Any Opinions on this Control Panel?
« on: July 19, 2004, 08:41:41 pm »
Hey everyone,

I've been lurking on this forum on and off for a couple of years,
and after finishing college, have finally decided to go ahead and build a cabinet.
After reading through the bulk of the examples, I've decided to base mine roughly off of:
Jeff's ULTIMATE MAME Arcade Machine
http://mame.velociworks.com/, mostly because he offered plans and I'm lacking in CAD ability.

I'm going to be doing a 4 player CP, and am looking for any input
you all have to offer.  My main concern is whether to turn the player
3 and 4 controls 45

I think it looks good.  The layout is sort of like mine.  My cp is 47"x19 1/2".  The best way to find out if you like your layout is to build a prototype out of card board.  I constructed my CP last so I could try out different angles for p3 and p4, making sure they have a decent view and enough rooms.  A few suggestions:
 - If you are going to use 7 buttons, move the 7th button down some so you can have the neogeo layout as well as the capcom layout.  Something like this:
  123
  456
7
 - The 3 buttons above p1 are porbably not needed.  I assume they are mouse buttons.  However, you can map any other buttons to the mouse and I think that the top row of p1 works fine for trackball games.

Good luck!

TalkingOctopus:

Hey, thanks for your input.  I've already got a lot of images from your website.
Your machine is cool looking, and I probably should have just referenced it. I figure it coudln't hurt to ask though :)

I'm going to go with a cardboard proto if I can bring myself to order $300 worth of stuff from 'bobroberts' or happs.

Heh, my 7 button layout is supposed to look like the NeoGeo controls (Mslug!), but the templates from here don't look like that.  I guess I just got lazy.

I'm going to agree with your judgement of the 3 "Missle Command" buttons.
I'll just go ahead and use some other buttons.

I appreciate the input.
