The design of my cabby calls for a Glowing Red Trackball, I want to keep the price down as much as possible so I am planning on getting an Ultimarc 2 1/4" Trackball device over a Happs Trackball due to the $60 price diff. ($30 vs. $90)

My question is, will a Happs Translucent replacement ball be compatible with the Ultimarc device?

Also, I know that the Happs brand of Trackballs have an opening in the bottom for a Lamp or LED to backlight their Translucents, but do the Ultimarc trackballs have the same hole or do I have to bore one out?

I'm planning on doing the exact same thing, i would love to know if i can use a translucent ball in my ultimarc trackball also.  i dont see why a simple modification if there is no hole available wouldnt be a problem.  Just drill a hole somewhere if it doesnt already have one.  I get my package today so ill keep you posted.

Here's a quote from another post also

"Works fine.  I've done two.  The Bob Roberts ones should work too.  Adding a light is easy, there are four holes on the bottom that look like they were made to hold a light socket."

i prefer LEDs.  there are different solutions that people have come up with to mount them..  easiest way i think is just with a bit of hot glue..

After you spend $30 for an Ultimarc TB and $15 for a translucent ball, you'd be better off just spending a little extra and get a nicer trackball unit.  I personally was very disappointed with the Ultimarc/Suzo units.  And from what Bob Roberts told me, the Suzo units are a disposable part.  They don't make replacement rollers, bearings...etc.

Bob Roberts sells Atari 2.25" trackballs for $65.  I think he only charges $5 more for a translucent ball.

$45 + ship vs. $70 + ship.  It really is worth it.  Just another opinion.
