Should I invest in identical joys?
« on: July 16, 2004, 05:01:28 pm »
I have a T-Stick Plus with ball top and a J-Stick.  The reason why I have these is because I only needed one easily changable from 4-way to 8-way.  However, now that I have them both, they feel really different.  I'm not sure if I should go ahead and go with what I have, or order another T-Stick Plus with ball top.  This would cost me about another $50 including shipping.  Opinions?

I mix/match mine all the time, so I'd vote no.

It's like mice.
If you use a bunch of different mice all the time, you get to where NONE of them feel weird.

I used to play Battlezone with a T-stik and a Top-Fire Super, which would be about the same feel for throw/resistance as the J-stik matchup.

If it really bothers you down the road, you can always switch it then.

If it really bothers you that much, just wait until you can rationalize a larger order and combine shipping.

If they have different mounting patterns it will be hard to swap out if you decide to later.  I say if you can afford it get the same sticks.  Not only will they feel the same but they will look the same.  I like the feel of a real arcade machine and what machine would have two different sticks for playing a two player game?  Just my opinion. (If price is an issue, don't worry about it.  You will get used to both sticks and have your cab up and running, which is the most important part.  Building is fun but playing is funner.)

Actaully, it's not the two player games that bother me.  It's more the games like Robotron.  The joys actually look the same, but just feel different.  They do have different bolt patterns, maybe I'll put some t-nuts for both bolt patterns in case I change my mind later.  That would make it easier.  I do have a budget, so I guess I'll just suck it up and use what I got.  Thanks everyone for your comments.
