Comments on my CP layout
« on: July 16, 2004, 06:32:22 am »
Hello

Im building my first cab and would like som feedback on my CP layout.

Im using the LuSID cab plan.

Im trying to keep it simple and functional. See the attached picture of the layout.

Setup:
2 player CP
6 buttons
Happ Trackball
Oscar Spinner
Mouse1 and Mouse2 on both sides for left/right-hand playing.
Shift button for admin mode.

I would like comments on the following:
With admin commands are the most important?
Is 2 Player coin needed, or can you just use 1 player coin? Pros/cons?

Any comments/feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Looks like a good start.

My thoughts:

Your spinner will get hit each time you use the TB.  I'd move it to the left some.

The panel is awful deep.  You could reduce it some.

P2 is useful if you play two player games.  I don't think you can start P2 without it.

You could elminate the Mouse1 and 2 buttons and, instead, map them to two of your Player 1 buttons.

As far as admin buttons, I only have a Pause button, which is the Shift also.  I don't have any other admin buttons and I have no problems.

Hi, thanks for your input.

I think i might have messed up the scale when saving as jpg from Visio, the board is 18x30, im thinking about making it a bit wider, I want to  be sure that two guys can play without standing too close.

Ill make a cardboard version when i get the parts, and find the right position for the spinner.

Nice site btw!

Thanks!

My CP is 30-1/2" wide and I have no problems with the two players bumping into each other, and I've had some big players.  Doing up a cardboard version is an excellent idea and will show you where layout improvements could be made.

It's your controller and do whatever feels right to you.

I agree bout hte spinner, if you do golf, bowling, horseshoe, or shuffleboard games it is in the way.  it would probably be best it you put is off center, and maybe a little deeper on the panel if that is still comfortable.

Or maybe swap the spinner and the trackball...That might not be a bad idea either.
Still in the collecting parts and ideas phase of cabinet building.

Thanks all

Ill try two different versions, one with the spinner off center, and one with the spinner down in front of the trackball, we'll see witch one feels the best.

Thanks for your input.

one thing you might want to be careful of also, is how close the 2Player joystick is to the track ball, if you have to slide to the right quickly you will probably hit your hand each time on the joystick.  if anything, make the 2P joystick up and to the right of the track ball, and push it a bit further away from it if you can.
