Is one of my trackball boards damaged?

I have a Betson 3" Trackball.  I am trying to make an adapter that will interface it with PS/2.  I have bought 2 different brand new ball mice so far.  The end result each time is that the Vertical Y axis on the mouse board goes bad.  Originally tested the Vertical was fine, but after connecting the 6 pin molex I made up to the board, Horizontal works fine but vertical does not.  Then when I take the optic wheel that came with the individual mouse to test the board itself, horizontal works fine and vertical does not.  Before everything was fine.  This has happened on 2 different mice.  How can I check the vertical board in the trackball to verify if it is doing something to the mice boards that is damaging the vertical?

You've probably got a power connection wrong, sending power to the wrong pin and causing it not to work.

Found out my trackball is fine, its my mouse hacks.  Can anyone reccommend a good ball mouse to use?

Just buy one of the USB Mouse Hacks from Oscar, and save yourself the trouble.
The mouse hack is $9.00 + shipping.
If you want a cable that will just plugs in on both ends, it will run you another $8.00.

The mouse hack has pin connectors where the emitter/detector would normally be, and you can just hook right up to them.
