1/16" Slot Cutting Bit from MCLS
« on: July 15, 2004, 03:46:34 pm »
So I'm looking @ the bits here:

http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/smarthtml/pages/bt_slot.html

$16 for the complete assembly seems very reasonable, unless there's somewhere better?

I'm not sure about the price, but I got mine from MLCS.  It was shipped quickly and arrived packaged fairly well.  The bit was a little hard to assemble (my own fault I think), but otherwise it was a pleasure to deal with them.

It arrived in PA in about 3 days.

I really couldn't beat $16.00 shipped FREE (didn't see that before) so I went with it.  I'll report back when I get it my experiences with the bit.

I also ordered one of these assemblies about two weeks ago.  As with others here, shipping was free and packaging/shipping time was great.

I haven't gotten to the part of my jukebox assembly that requires the use of it, but when I do, I'll post as well.

Actually, now that you mention it, I had some trouble putting it together too. It didn't matter, (since it works fine anyway) but I ended up assembling it a bit different from what the picture showed.

I still haven't figured out how to assemble mine. What is the plastic spacer thing for?

Hey Peale,  ;)

I have that same bit that you're asking about. Also, a while back , I too had a difficult time putting it together. I have this link from when I asked about mine.

http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=14402;start=msg112446#msg112446

It was another member ( Tilzs ) who helped me with assembly, so I hope the link helps you with yours.

On the same topic, how deep does the cutter need to go to ensure the T-Molding is flush with the edge?  Looking at the website in the link from the post at the top of this thread, I'm not sure whether #5341 or #7641 is what I'd need to buy.  Actually, I'm not even sure what the difference in size means for the two of them...

Hurray for woodworking newbies!

Note: Edited the above to not reflect a need to "hurry for woodworking newbies" :)  Typos in all the wrong places. bleh.

Cutting the slot 3/8" deep should suffice.

That's the size of the arbor.  More than likely you need the 1/4" one, #5341.
