I-PAC problems

Well yesterday I was having problem when I plugged in the I-PAC, XP was saying that it did not recognize the device. After trying everything the troubleshooting guide suggested I decided to upgrade my XP using the service pack 1.  NOW it doesn't see the device at all. Plug it in and nothing happens. HELP!!!!!!!!!! Any ideas?

Which IPAC? Using PS/2 or USB? Are the jumpers set correctly? Are the cables snug on the board and on the computer?

Its the ps/2 I-PAC2, I'm using the ps/2 to usb cable. I recieved one of the new I-PAC2s that doesnt have any jumpers.  It is supposed to auto recognize whether it is hooked up using usb or ps/2.

"plug it in and nothing happens" concerns me.
Are you plugging the PS/2 connector in while the computer is on? This is the way we fry PS/2 jacks.

The cable I am using is a ps/2 to USB....ps/2 on the I-pac USB to the computer.
And yes I have plugged the USB end into the computer while it is on. That the way USB devices work most of the time. On the I-PAC there is a little green light that give error messages. When I plug the USB to the computer it flashes twice then stays lit. That exactly what ultimarc says should happen. However, the computer never acknowledges that a new device is hooked up. (I have checked the port with a thumb drive and it works fine.) I just ordered a ps/2 cable to see if that will work because I am out of ideas.

The only other thing I would suggest is deleting all your USB devices, peripherals, and hubs using the device manager and reboot. Leave all your USB components unplugged. Then, after the system is done discovering all the ports, then try the IPAC again.

Also, are you sure you have used the motherboard manufacturers drivers as well? Some mobo companies use special drivers that connect the north and south. nForce is notorious for this.

Is there another computer you can try it on to rule out the ipac being bad?

Before I updated my version of XP using service pack 1, I was getting the "unknown device" error everytime I plugged the I-PAC in the  USB port. I tried plugging the I-PAC in to two other computers, a laptop running XP, and another desktop running XP. They both gave the same error "unknown device". I am really stuck....I'm starting to think that I might have a bad card.

        WinXP should pick it up as a Plug n play device and set it up as a mouse with mouse drivers. I know mine did. If it doesn't work on 2 other comps and the cable is plugged in tight , then it can only be a couple of things that could possibly be wrong.

     1. The USB cable is bad, I had that problem a while back with my scanner. replace the cable.
     2.  On the PS/2 conector (USB Cable) a pin is bent or broken. replace the cable.
     3. The I-Pac although aparing to work fine, it probably isn't. replace the card.

        There isn't much else it could be.

The IPac/2 should be seen as a keyboard, not a mouse!

The Opti-Pac should be seen as a mouse.
