Marquee plexiglass -- how thick?
« on: July 12, 2004, 12:29:26 pm »
I'm going to sandwich my marquee artwork between two pieces of plexiglass (as suggested by several people).

How thick do I want each piece of plexiglass?  1/4" or 1/8"?

I'm using the Happ's Marquee retainer in case that matters.

I don't think thickness matters. I'd go with the thinnest (i.e. cheapest).   I'm using 0.080"

Granted I only own three pieces of plexi at the moment, but of the two marquees that I have, one is 1/8 and the other is even thinner.  I have a piece of 1/4 inch for sitting in front of the monitor.  A couple of the other cabs I looked at were pretty much the same.  The thing with keeping the marquee thinner is that it makes it easier to pop out when/if the need arises in my opinion.  In the arcades the plexi in front of the monitor was a bit more to protect the monitor, whereas the plexi for the marquee is just for show for the most part, so it's really up to you.  If it would be cheaper to have someone cut everything from a 1/4 inch piece then go for it.
The default personal text is is "I'm a llama!"???  I guess that makes me an emperor with a new a groove.

Well, I'm thinking that two pieces of 1/4" would be a bit thick for my marquee retainer.  I'm sure it would fit, but wouldn't it be sticking out a bit far?  I guess it's personal preference, but I'm looking here for what's the norm :)   Price isn't really an issue though because 1/4" vs 1/8" is only around $2 more.

You did mention the 1/4" in front of your arcade monitor...  I was wondering which thickness to get for that... Instead of re-posting my question here, can anybody check out my other thread here:
