nope I gotta pass on this one.  My neighbour's really psyched about starting his own cabinet project, so he may end up dragging me along with him.  I'm kinda holding out now for a buddy of mine who's dad won one of those rental unit auctions a bunch of years back that ended up being loaded with about 10 cabinets.    Most of them no name conversion cabs, but I do recall he had a pole position, and Asteroids, a ms. Pac Man, and an Arkanoid that were originals.   Unfortunately most of them were basically mistreated over the years (stored in an old barn), but one of these weekends I wanna swing by his shop and check them out.   My buddy's old man is a bit of a dink too, so even though he probably doesn't understand that they could be restored, repaired  or converted to something useful he'd rather they rot then give them away.     We'll see what happens...

In the meantime, have fun at the auction - and bring a megaphone for gramps the auctioneer..........25 bucks for a Tekken showcase cab.....that ain't right!

Cheers!
Mike

I'll be there saturday...   got to pick up some parts too (parts dept opens at 12).

Now I know that there are apparantly some rules when wearing a t-shirt...

Never wear a band shirt for the band that you're going to see.

Apparantly, it is ok (and even cool) to wear a beer shirt to the beer festival.

So what category does the arcade shirt to an arcade auction fall into??  Cool, or mega faux pas?

 ;D

Lots of stuff but it got overpriced pretty fast on some stuff--a three  player super sprint with a nice monitor but other wise average cab went for $425 (I have never seen one go so high--apparently the guy was muttering "I must have this" every time he lifted his number to bid  :P)

I picked up a non working speed buggy for $25--took it home, checked all the connections and boom she works so who knows What I'll do with that.  One of the guys that came with me picked up a generic street fighter for $100 but the monitor looks to have a blown flyback so we'll see.  Some golden tee 2000's for 325$ in nice shape, a demolition man pin for $825 that was in good shape, the bride of pinbot pin for 1050$ that also was iin good shape.  A buddy took down some prices so I'll egt the list and post back here.

Yeah, I left shortly after they moved to the big building. There were quite a few larger "simulation" type games there and quite a few showcase cab games. How much did the X-Men boardset go for?

Good lord what a weird auction.  Things started off soooo cheap in the first building (less then 200$ for a pinball machine is unheard of.. mind you not a good one.. but still).

I was hoping to get my hands on a foosball table in the sub 300$ range.. fat chance.  It seemed like there wasent much around for the frugal buyer (in terms of quality and price).  I cant believe the neogeo cabs went for that much, and what was with the NFL Blitz for approx 800$?? (yet only 500$ for a chexx hockey, even with the ducttape on the goals)...

I wonder what these auctions were like 3 or 4 years ago before the mame craze....

My brother was saying that they used to sell batch lots (like 5 or so) of machines for 25$ since no one would buy just one dilapitated cab.  and there were alot more classic machines mixed in there since guys were cleaning out their warehouses.

Then comes the mamers and all h3ll breaks loose!   ;D

There used to be alot more bargain frankencabs, back in the day (late 90's). At the time, I lived in a high-rise apartment, so I attended these more out of curiosity than to pick up anything. I remember a fully working Xybots going for $25 (what a unique MAME cab that would make), a converted PacMan with intact side-art, for $25, etc, etc...

As for high prices, I don't necessarily blame MAME'ers... It's machines that can still make money in a bar that go for alot. For example foosball tables NEVER go for cheap. And that's cuz they aren't being bought for someone's basement. Those machines are going to be earning $ in some bar a week later.

NO MORE!!

Isn't it also a case of the original players now coming of age (and getting money) and then they want to put the game they always played in their home?

I think so.

Wait till we are put into nursing homes and start dieing off, our kids and family wont want to keep a refrigerator sized game, that (by that time) can be played in a wrist watch computer.

I wonder how much/less these games will be worth by then.
