Perfect 360 Wiring on old MAS Stick - Help Please!
« on: July 07, 2004, 12:28:14 pm »
I have an old MAS stick from a couple years ago that is wired for DC. I purchased a Perfect 360 to replace the Super in there right now not anticipating the need for an external power supply. If anyone knows anything about the MAS board or the power it draws from a DC and what to wire any help would be appreciated.

If anyone just has a suggestion for an easy external power supply that should be all that I need. I tried using an AC adaptor that put out +5v at 300mA but it didn't seem to properly power the device.

Thank you.

I just did this modification a few days ago.  I have a really old stick, maybe 5 years old by now.

Look to see where the red wire is coming out of the Dreamcast cable.  Solder to that and you should be ok.  I heard that on newer PCBs, there's a spot thats clearly marked for the +5v.  You don't need an external power supply.

Slightly OT but are you planning on using that stick in a cabinet?  You're one of the few people here who have mentioned MAS sticks other than me.  I'm planning on using 2 with PS2 and Gamecube support in my cab.  Just wanted to see if you were also and see what kind of ideas you had.

We are actually considering building a 2 piece cab with the sticks in a mounted stand that we can take apart to move to college. the other piece will have the TV/Monitor and the DC/Computer.

Our idea is just to build a stand that the controllers can drop down into. The angle is already set in the controller so we can just put it on a flat stand and secure it and it should be good.

What are your ideas?

I'm still undecided on whether I will build a LuSid style cab or a Neo-Geo style 2 part cabinet.  I have a removable box with a trackball and 3 button built to the same height and depth as the MAS sticks to fit in the middle of the 2 sticks I have.  I'm gonna build a flat shelf with a small lip to hold the sticks and trackball box in place that I would attach to the front similarly to other removable control panels I've seen.    I kinda like your idea of dropping them in.  I would just need to modify my lip idea to make the sides higher.  I just like the idea of having them be removable for console play away from the cabinet.

Are you going to be replacing the artwork on yours?

naw. the artwork on the sticks is admittedly lame but replacing it would just be too much of a hassle to impress our friends  :)

we'd rather impress them with our nasty Third Strike skills  8).
