Final order from Happ's -- please read!
« on: July 06, 2004, 09:36:23 pm »
I'm getting ready to place my final (hopefully!) order from Happ's controls...

Here is what I'm going to buy:

1) Extra buttons
2) Marquee Retainer**
3) Coin door replacement buttons**

Here are my questions...

Marquee retainer:  What else do I need to purchase besides the actual marquee retainer?  Does it include both the top and bottom pieces?

Coin door replacement buttons:  I got a used coin door that has coin return buttons that say "$1.00 [4 quarters]".  It accept quarters, but the coin return button says $1.  I'd like to purchase ones that simply say 25 cents.  Also one of the coin slots seems to get jammed when I insert a coin.  Can I simply adjust something or if I replace the coin return will that replace that mechanism as well?  Is this the coin mech I'm replacing?

The retainer comes in 2  5' pieces that you cut to fit.

I'd suggest getting some plastic corner molding instead of the marquee holders.  Shipping will eat you alive.

Well, the bezel I finally received from them had a crack in it.  When I ask for a replacement tomorrow I'm going to try to get free shipping for all the extra stuff I want to order.

In case they still charge me... does Happ's sell those plastic corner pieces?

As for the coin return buttons...  which one would I need from here:
http://www.happcontrols.com/cc/420517xx.htm

My coin door is a standard Happ's door.  However, it seems as though all of the Happ's coin return buttons say "HAPPS" on them.  Do any of them just say ".25 cents" without the darn Happs logo?

Oh, also... I might have another problem...

On the speaker shelf, how far in is the bottom piece of the marquee retainer?

Here is my problem...

The speaker shelf will have a marquee retainer on the end of it, then will come my speaker grills, then will come my bezel.

Now the problem is that it's a very small area between my bezel and the edge of the speaker panel (where the retainer will go).

I'm using 6 1/2" speakers and the grills are quite big.  However as long as the retainer doesn't go IN too far I should be ok.

Anybody know the exact distance?

another way is to print out your own coin reject button graphic. look behind the reject button and remove the c-clip then remove the button assembly from the door. the button legend graphic will come right out.

this is the one i made:

Hey that looks pretty good!

Did you print that on special clear paper or something?

I think my coin door return buttons have the $1 / Happs logo printed right on the button itself?  Would i need to order a "blank" return coin return button?

I printed it on regular high res printer paper. the graphic goes in a slot inside the reject button.

try taking the button out of the coin door and investigate before you spend any money.

You can't really see it that well in this picture, but my coin buttons look like this.

I just printed them out on photo paper, and then inserted them into the coin buttons.
My cab has an Unreal Tournament theme, and reworking the coin buttons tied into that.

A.M.O.A. specs now say that all coin entry buttons will be identified with the name or manufacturer's logo to idenify who made the door so the correct parts are ordered when needed.

It's *about* a half an inch.  Can't give you a more exact figure, because it depends on how the board is angled relative to the marquee (a 90 degree angle with fit the retainer more snugly than a wider angle, so the amount that ends up attached to the board is variable).  But it isn't very much in any case.

And definitely print out your own coin labels.  Really easy to do.  I made up a set in photoshop that were very simple.  Just white letters on a black background.

If I've learned anything during the time I've spent here, its that there is never a final order.

I wonder what the oversized box charge will be for that???!!!!

I don't recall what the exact shipping charge was, but it wasn't anything outrageous.

I'd suggest getting some plastic corner molding instead of the marquee holders.  Shipping will eat you alive.

If you order the marquee retainer from Happ on the phone and request USPS shipping (instead of UPS) the shipping cost will be $7 instead of $30

Dig it ?

Because the Happ marquee retainer is plastic you can shape it to match the speaker grill with a grinder.

Good idea, but if it's only ~ 0.5 inches then I don't have much to sand...  If I sand it too far it won't be able to stay on the speaker shelf, right?

Also, I followed your advice Spystyle and called Happ's to request cheaper shipping.  That lady at their sales department is SUPER friendly.  She said I wouldn't have insurance or a tracking number, but if I wanted USPS Priority Mail it wouldn't be a problem what-so-ever.

Any idea how long priority mail usually takes?  I'm guessing 3 days or so? from IL to PA?

I just returned your email.

As far as the coin return artwork.  I suggested in the email that you print your own.  You can take apart the return button and pull out the old one and replace it.

On the coin sticking issue, is it just one coin or have you tried several.  Is it getting stuck before it actually drops in the coin mech or while in the coin mech?  What type of coin are you using (I assume quarter)?

Oscar has some coin artwork in his gallery:

http://www.oscarcontrols.com/gallery04.htm

There are also reject inserts in the thread at:

http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=13;action=display;threadid=19727

I printed mine on regular paper.  Real ones are on thin mylar, and are not transparent.  You can buy just the mylar inserts from Happs if you like; see http://www.happcontrols.com/cc/42008400.htm .  Minimum quantity is 10 inserts, though.

Thanks for the e-mail.  I've sent you another e-mail and I'll e-mail you some pictures later (and I'll post them to this thread as well if I remember)

I've tried several coins and they all seem to get stuck on the right-side coin slot.  They seem to get stuck right after they go through the coin return button.  So I think it's getting stuck just as it's entering the coin mech?  Does that sound right?

Sounds like the coin might be getting stuck as it is trying to leave the coin return button and entering the chute that leads to the coin mech.  The coin mech is the actual rectangular mechanism with all the levers and screws that the coin drops through to reach the coin switch which trips the credits.  Once you post the pics I can be sure, but you may just need to adjust the coin return button and bezel to allow the coins clear passage.
