All Arcades in Japan to be networked?
« on: July 06, 2004, 11:06:22 am »
Saw this article today:

Apparently Sega, Sammy and Namco are going to create an arcade network to allow for transmission of saved player data between arcades in Japan.

Sounds more like a way for the manufacturer to get into the game operator's pockets to me.

In Japan there are arcades that have games from only one manufacturer.  I remember seeing SegaLand in a bunch of different locations when I was there.

From the article:

"between them, Sega, Sammy, and Namco own and operate the vast majority of Japanese amusement centers"

They aren't trying to get into the pockets, they *are* the pockets.

Why move to Japan, a few months after they link them, someone will figure out a way to hack into the system and you'll be able to link to the arcades from your house.

i just love the whole japanese culture, i race their import cars, i play their videogames, i like anime, have a thing for japanese chicks =P  i swear i should have been born there.

and from an arcade point of view, japan has arcades that make ours look like a hole in the ground. so many awesome games come out there that never see the light of day over here.

cool japanese games

WOW, this is a really old link, but I was just browsing, and noticed that seph still comes on these boards. Seph, please, be careful with those wacky japanese girls! I have one as a GF right now, and she is quite the headache. WAY TOO MUCH DRAMA! Seriously! Im not saying that they are all like that, but dont be like me and think you wont have to deal with as much drama with em'. Its WAY WORSE!!!!! (Then again, you can try to get a japanese american girl....but trust me, the language barrier, and drama are just horrid with my japanese native at least!!)
