8 ball for a trackball???
« on: July 03, 2004, 10:37:08 pm »
I'm still a newbie to the arcade parts world.  I saw a picture of a guy using an 8 ball in his trackball assembly.  Anybody know how big of a trackball I would need in order to do this?  As far as I know, the standard size of a set of pool balls is 2 1/4" and therefore should fit a 2 1/4" trackball, unless there is something that I missed and the assembly is measured differently.
Along the same lines...anybody have one of the size I need for sale!?  If someone has an assembly without a ball I'd be interested in that too.  I would be wanting to use a I-Pac with it because I want to add in a makeshift spinner.....once I can get that in the works anyways (waiting on parts).

Thanks in advace for any help you guys can give.

Hmmm, you say you will be using an OptiPAC with it eh?  Have you ordered that yet?  If not, you should definitly get a 2

If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

You don't need an I-pac for trackballs and spinners.
The Opti-pac is used for those, or you can get a USB mouse hack from Oscar, and use the wiring diagram he has for hooking a trackball and spinner to the same mouse hack.

crashwg is correct: you need a 2-1/4" trackball.

I-Pac, opti-pac...whatever...they both happen to be cards that I don't own...  Yah, so when I said the I-pac, I meant the opti-pac...and as far as buy that instead of the mouse hack, I'm getting to the point where I just want to be DONE with this machine, because it's becoming more of a burden than anything.  I need to buy new joysticks because the first set I bought suck ass, and I knew I needed to deal with thetrackball issue at some point, but everytime I thought I had something figured out that would work, I lost the bidding on e-Bay (a couple times because I just plain forgot to put in a bid before it ended).
But it's nice to know which mouse I actually need if I want to do the 8-ball thing...I was just hoping that one of the moderators might have seen this and had one lying around.  Oh well.
Looks like I have to spend another hundred bucks and then I should be done with this thing for the most part.

Thanks for the input.

Bitter?  Only at myself I guess.  I screwed up on several events of my project and nothing seems to pan out when I do get a good idea.  Overall it's because I have an off cabinet and it would have been better left as Jamma instead of converting to Mame.
