Unique arcade cabinet! FA
« on: July 02, 2004, 09:15:16 pm »
Check this out (not my auction):

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6105162324&rd=1

I completely forgot this game even existed, but upon seeing it, I now remember playing it. Would make an excellent addition to ones collection (but it's not that fun of a game).

And before anyone else says it... How about MAMEing this thing?? ;-D (Actually I don't see the point, given that it's controls are way too unique).

I diefinitly wouldn't want to mame that thing, it seems way too unique.

But... I think it would be sweet to try and reproduce it and make a mame cab.  Viper, which is the sequal to Danger Zone also has the same control method.  Not to mention you could easily play most yoke games on it I'm assuming.

If anyone happens to buy this thing, please PLEASE take detailed measurments and pictures!  I'll probably give it a shot!  If no one on the boards does buy it I'm going to be asking the buyer to take measurments and such so if anyone else is interested, let me know.

Oh and a question that KLOV didn't answer for me:
The joysticks don't move right?  They are more "handles" than anything else it seems, and you move the whole upper part of the cab right?

If that's the case (not actually being joys) it would be pretty cheap to just get the replacement handle grips from happ.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again

actually thats a great idea! wouldnt have to be an exact replica, just the general feel of it. even though its a trackball design, you could probably play things like battle zone on it as well. hey, and what an amazing way to play arkanoid!

its a trackball design

I'm 90% sure that it's POT based as it makes a heck of a lot more sense.  1 pot mounted at the bottom of the shaft holding the monitor up and 1 next to the monitor at the axis for up and down.

Basically it's a 270

Personally, I wouldnt even touch it. It's allright design wise but if someone MAMEed that it'd be a low blow.

Looks like the seller pulled the auction when it was about to sell for only 50 bucks... that's dirty pool...

I have never sold anything on Ebay, so I'm wondering, why would a seller pull an auction instead of just setting a reserve in the first place??

Because reserves cost more in listing fees, and they turn off buyers.  I personally never bid on reserve auctions.

LOL, I had actually considered going and picking this thing up... before I new where Camloops, BC realy was.

Well this is kinda sucky...  Obviously the seller is an jackass (unless of course the cab actually did get "lost or broken") so I doubt I'll be getting any dimensions/pictures.   :(

Does anyone know of a person/place that could give me more detailed information on a DZ or Viper cab?

The right analogy is that it's a "yoke" with the monitor mounted right on it.

That design would be a lot of fun for a Starwars yoke alternative.  Cool design.
