Removable joysticks?
« on: July 02, 2004, 01:19:40 am »
I am starting to plan my next cab (yes, before my first one is even working) and I was wondering if there is a way to have removable joysticks. Not the entire joystick, just the actual bat portion.

The project is a portable cab and I need to be able to remove the sticks. I will post more detailed reasons in the projects section once I figure out a few more things.

Thanks for the help! ;D

Check out Ed's "MAME on the Move" project.  There was discussion about the same thing.

I don't think there's a "convenient" way to remove them....

Hmm... Are the T-Stik Plus joystick shafts hollow? I really was looking for an easier way. Perhaps removing the entire unit? It could be done if you made the area surrounding it tight enough and then wired up some quick release connectors. What do you think?

It really would be nice if I remove the joysticks, since they are almost 5 3/4" tall. I am wanting to make my cab thinner than that.

Also, I am looking for material to build this cab out of. I need something light and tough. Not over 3/4" thick. Any ideas? BTW, metal is out of the question. I have never worked with it or do I have the tools to do so.

With Happ's comps you can make the bat and shaft removable...

You rubber cement the actuator to the plastic and that way you do not have to put the e-clip on the bottom of the shaft, and tada...removable joysticks.

Originally I was using this scheme to make swappable joystick shafts with home made top fire shafts for assault, vindicators, ect.

Going with Modular panel instead...
