Evaluate coin mechanisms, speakers, etc.

Ver-r-r-ry close to getting my cabinet playable.

It is a gutted "Space Duel" cabinet, but it *did* come with the coin slots & associated wires, and even the 6x9" speakers.

My questions:

1) What would be involved in making the coin mechanism work?  (So that dropping a quarter in would give a credit)

2) Ditto for the speakers.  I'm pretty sure I'd need an amplifier (the speakers look like the kind you'd put in a car).

Obviously it also depends on whether or not they are in working condition or need to be repaired (I have no idea and have no idea on how to determine this)

There is a microswitch at the bottom of the coin mech. A coin dropping down from the "Accept" slot on the coin mech momentarily activates the microswitch on it's way into the cashbox. The left (as viewed from the front of the machine with the door closed) coin microswitch N.O. (normally open) terminal connects to the "Coin 1" pin on the Jamma edge connector. The right coin microswitch N.O. terminal connects to the "Coin 2" pin on the Jamma edge connector. Both of the coin microswitch "Com" terminals are connected to any of the "Ground" pins on the Jamma edge connector.



 All JAMMA compliant game boards have their own on-board amplifiers so all you do is connect the speakers to the Jamma harness.

I took a cheap (<$10) pair of amplified computer speakers, ripped them apart and detached the speakers.  I then connected the cabinet speakers to the wires where the computer speakers were connected.  Sounds just fine now.

I take it you are going to MAME this machine? If so you just wire your coin door micro switches up to your keyboard encoder the same way you wire any other micro switch on your machine.

Interesting.  I would have thought that the "car-like" 6x9's would have required more amplification than that.  Will have to keep my eyes open for a good deal on those.

Yup.  Gonna MAME it.  Not too familiar with coin door microswitches.  Are they standard?  Diagrams anywhere?  Which wires/contacts do I look for, etc.?
