Cocktail Plans
« on: June 23, 2004, 05:00:55 pm »
Hi all,

Im wondering if anyone can give me some good insight, as to designing my cocktail cab. What I have in mind, is the defacto cocktail controls on either side, as well as a horizontal control panel.

One cocktail I really like is
http://www.mameworld.net/massive/Cabinet/Cabin/Cabin.html

If this cab had controls on the verticals as well...it would be almost exact to what Im looking to build.

The best cabinet plans (when I say plans I mean 'blueprint' with exact measurements) are the pac man cocktail plans on this site. Im finding it difficult to tweak these plans correctly and proportionally.

So Im just wondering if anyone can point me in a direction, where I could find some good inspiration, and hopefully even some general measurements that would be easier for me to work off of.

Thanks!

You're welcome to modify and use mine if you like.
I have CAD files for the major panels, and a good idea on what to modify for the next time.

They'll look something like this:

Jkawch,
As requested, here are my plans. You'll need CAD to read them, there's a lot of things missing, such as how to mount the monitor/CPs etc, but it'll be clear when I post a thread showing the construction.

Rename the .txt file to a .zip extension to open it.

Unless you are building a reproduction build your cab to fit your monitor/TV/tube!

And don't rush your design.  Design time is cheap in comparison to materials.

I started my cab design with Kyle's Pac Man plans, I ended up designing something to suit my requirements and build abilities.  About the only thing which remains from those Pac Man plans is the hinged back/top.

MAME Projects % completed:
2004 3 sided cocktail cabinet w/ modular CP <25% (discarded)
2004 Tempest cabinet & CP > 75% (sold)
2017 Raspberry Pi Zero W w/ Lakka microconsole 50%
2021 Vertical Bartop - in progress > 80%, 100% functional (sleeping)

I couldn't agree more. I spent months with CAD drafting mine, and there were still things I forgot to account for.

I intended mine to fit a 17" PC monitor with a case, but ended up decasing it for better mounting, and gained some precious space.

Unless you are building a reproduction build your cab to fit your monitor/TV/tube!

And don't rush your design.  Design time is cheap in comparison to materials.

Thanks for all the help everyone. Blakey your cab is looking nectar, metal cp's plus chrome t-molding add a great touch.

Your CAD files are actually a great help, I have to expand mine a bit though, since Ive got a 19" Happs SVGA sitting here, and I think Ill need some extra room.

I like the idea of expanding the side panels out to 'wings' for the horizontal CP. I need some extra room for my vertical CP's though, because I plan on plopping an extra 4-way j-stik along with what you have on there.

I hope Im not treading into overkill territory...only time will tell.

I don't understand some of your adjectives! countache, nectar? Are you French-Canuck or speaking a lingo that hasn't reached Australia yet (wish I could say the same for nizzle shizzling)

Mine would probably fit a 19" if the chassis was located separately. Measure up and see. Then change the plans to fit it.

If you want big vert CP's, check out Tilz's cab, and make the panels interlock. Stronger and bigger CP's.
