Dual mice

What do I need to have two mice working for MAME? I have Windows 2000. Do I need a special version of MAME or will they work with the regular version? I have an optical usb trackball. Will I have to use a comm mouse as a second mouse or another usb mouse will work too? Do I need any special drivers or any patch for the SO?

Do you mean having two "mice" working within 1 game - like a two player trackball game?  The OptiPac board (Ultimarc) has two mouse inputs (player 1 & 2), I am not suing both myself but assume that would do the trick.  I actually have my trackball/spinner hooked into my Opti-pac (through a COM port) and a normal serial mouse hooked up as well (I have a slide out drawer with my mouse and keyboard for working on the front end and what not), and both show up in Windows XP (as if I have 2 mice) and both work.... But I have not tried to use both at the same time within Mame itself.

:) Rotate or die! :)

If you want to be able to use a mouse with your frontend and a trackball in Centipede, no problem - MAME and Windows will assign them both to Sysmouse and they will fight over the cursor, but either one will work independently.

If you want two trackballs hooked up for CABAL, you need either Win98 or WinXP (won't work in Win2k), you need either MAME Analog Plus or NoNameMAME, both devices have to be USB, and you need to set some options in MAME to get them assigned to the correct players.

Multiple mice are supported under Windows 9x and Windows XP using Mame Analog+/No Name Mame, but NOT Windows 2000.  There is a way that it could be possible to add multiple mouse support using Windows 2000 called cpnmouse:

http://cpnmouse.sourceforge.net/

However, it's a little bit more complicated than the current Win XP/9X solutions because you need to use a special mouse driver, and there haven't really been enough people begging for Windows 2000 support for multiple mice to have made it worthwhile.  There's actually only one other person that I've heard mention it so far.

If you are running Mame Analog+ or NoName on Windows 9x, then you must use all USB mice to enjoy multiplayer mousing.  However, under Windows XP doesn't have this restriction, so you can use serial, ps/2, and usb mice.
