Ms Pac Man speed?
« on: June 21, 2004, 01:18:31 pm »
I got Ms. PacMan going but I seem to remember that she ran a LOT faster in the arcades than the version I have.

I have tried the dip switches (in MAME) but can't find a speedup.

Was there another version?

I recently went to an arcade and my wife and I actuually said the opposite of what you said ...we thought it was too fast. Well after doing some investigating I found out that there is a speed up chip that was available for the game.

Therefore my guess is that you must have played the speed up version and I must have played the original,or slower version.

BTW...I just played the rom mspacman and that seems top be the speed I remember

Just my 2 cents

As Ed says, the speed up option was a chip and not a dip switch setting. I'm not sure if there's a way to play the faster version in MAME. I prefer the original myself.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think if you get the cheat.dat file and enable cheats, the speedup becomes available as a cheat in MAME.

You could also try playing Ms. Pacman Champion Edition / Super Zola Pac Gal (dip switch selectable), it's a fair bit faster.

On conventional arcade Pacman and Ms. Pacman boards a speed up chip has been available for many, many years. You change chip "6F" to the speedup chip. There is no dip switch settings to change speed on conventional boards.
