akira arcade artwork
« on: June 19, 2004, 06:34:59 pm »
1) attached is my marquee. I vectorized the logo and japanese characters if anyone wants them. I used scanlines on the background image to take care of the lower quality.

2) I still need to make a control panel for this. I'm looking for like button tags that say "punch" "kick" "player 1" or things like that. Also, anyone have an akira font, or even that street fighter font that hulkster used in mamestrosity is cool.

3) I think im gonna make stencils of the japanese characters for the side and spray paint red. Anyone know a good material to make the stencils out of? cardboard? wood? contact paper?

Very nice.  I love that classic anime.  I'm jealous I didn't think of it first. :P

Man you could make that SOOOOOOoooo cooool *well whatever art you make*  if you have the Akira dvd or something you can take snapshots, or if you can find hi-res pictures online that would be cool too, but I was just having all sorts of brain storms about that milky bear, and all that weird crap that comes of Tetsuo when he loses control.  Man you could make this awesome flowing cp with the gross crap covering the whole thing, and all sorts of cool character pictures and shapes and what not all over it...  *mind wanders*  looks cool so far, if you're going to be paying for the printing, might as well make it as good as you can before finishing.

thanks for the feedback. I thinks something with the kids or the bulging tetsuo arm would come out nice and the bear breaking down the whole building scene. I actual think the scene in the beginning where they kill the guy with the machine gun in front of one of the kids is especially creepy... i'll try to incorporate that. i've been downloading a ton of akira images lately and trying to come up with something, i think i have picked out some really nice shots of tetsuo. I just want to have button labels on it as well. I'll post that when i get something done later today...

I'd include the cycles.  I thought they were the coolest part of the movie.  I don't want to see gooey brains or tetsuo going crazy.  I enjoy anime but I really couldn't stand Akira.  It had no plot.  Anyhow, good luck.

The movie is definately too short for such an indepth plot and they do leave a lot out. I've heard the manga is a much better story. I still love the movie mostly because of the art.

It looks great, but you might want to spend a little time fine tuning the letters - the bottom of the K seems to have too many nodes in incorrect places, as does the R and the last A.

do you know any place that would do custom marquee and side art. i'm building a streetfighter arcade machine. i've got pix but need them put to a marquee and side sticker. your marquee came out good; ever thought of doing it with a background of the bikes racing??

I would suggest trying to find hi-res scans of the artwork instead of using screen caps for your stock.  There's a lot of it out there.  Just do a google image search for Akira.  Oh.. and ignore Akira-Fubuki... she's already mine.  8) LOL

Hmm... interesting but somehow it feels like an empty canvas.  I came up with a little mock up, nothing too special but its got some ideas you can go with.

Yah, ummm join the chat room sometime and I should be on tomorrow until later in the day..  This was a rough so if you want me to work on or if you want to work on a final version, we can talk more about that too.  The hexagons were created using photoshop, a really simple technique I mess around with now and again, I was thinking of making them 3D with illustrator, but I didn't want to spend too much time on it if it was too late for you to use this art.
  -  any way for us to chat is best so we can talk about what you want on there, what we could do with it, etc.  I always like improving my style and trying new techniques.
