As an example, although it isn't exactly new. I have a Konami Krypt Killer hard drive PCB which is JAMMA but in the original 5'x6'x8' cabinet had everything connected directly to the PCB, no JAMMA connector plugged in. When I pulled that cabinet apart for the 50" screen I plugged the PCB into my JAMMA cab and it worked fine so was designed to be used either way. The 3 shotguns still had to be plugged into the PCB but the player start buttons, video, sound and coin mech all worked off JAMMA just fine.
