Probably not "super" high.  Its missing parts and such.  Might go higher now that it has some publicity.

Starwars yoke rotates left and right, like driving a car *plus* the handles twist forwards and backwards, giving you 2-axis control. If I recall correctly, roadblasters is just left and right.

I think they still used the "up down" to aim the machine gun on the top of your car. But having looked on KLOV now, the controller doesn't match.

My next guess would be that it's from STUN Runner, but again, the sticker on the yoke doesn't quite match.

Well, we know it's an Atari yoke, that's for sure.  :D  And it's a game that had machine guns...

Yes, it is from Firefox.  It is identical to Star Wars except for the overlay decal.

I built a Star Wars / Empire Strikes Back mame cab using one hacked to a Dual Strike....worked great.

looks like it went for $81. not bad considering its got missing parts right?  I wish someone would start making reproductions of these.  I actually bought twisty's doc on building it but it looks very complicated.

Has anyone build a twisty yoke?

I actually have a prototype of something I made that looks alot like Joey's on the FAQ.  I was wondering what type of interest/pricing people would go for.

Menace's design is much easier to build than Twisty's, IMHO.  Still costs you about $70 in parts when all's said and done:

menace's design looked good i thought, but one thing i would change are the kid's liught thingees. happs has hand grips which look to be for a byo yoke... but they're definetly more expensive than the light thingees.

I own all three Atari yokes (Star Wars, STUN Runner, and Road Blasters), and no I am not being greedy and hoarding, all mine are on dedicated units. Anyway, only the Star Wars/Firefox/etc one is suitable for Mame action. The Stun Runner one only goes up, and the Road Blasters one is optical in nature, and doesn't go up or down.

Paige-

What's up with the Microphone/Headphone jacks on Firefox?  Headphones I get, but a Mic?  I know in the movie Clint could control the plane with his thoughts (...but you must think in Russian..), but surely Firefox didn't have some kind of voice control feature.. did it?  I played it back in the day, but I sure don't remember anything like that.

I haven't seen one in ages. My GUESS is that it is for some feature that never got used or something? For some reason I am thinking "headset".

What about Road Riot?

I just looked inside my unused STUN runner yoke... I don't know if the regular production units look like mine, but if they do... It would be fairly easy to convert it to star wars duty.
Here's a picture of the inside of the STUN yoke:

Notice the single return spring?

Here's how they restrict the up/down movement to only "up":

So it seems as though you could remove the silver plate, and add a additional return spring.. and have a nice star wars yoke (except for the different grip style).

Just for the sake of comparison...
Here's the same pic's of a actual star wars yoke..
(Please excuse the rusty/crusty yoke... My "Minty fresh" yoke is out of the country being "replicated" ;))

Return springs pic:

And the lack of limiting plate pic:

And just for reference sake:
Here's how star wars/STUN runner yokes sense Left-Right motion:

Here's the two types of Roadblasters "yokes" (I don't know if they actually qualify as a "yoke" because they are only Left-Right controllers)
"Star wars grips style"

"Vindicators Grips style" (With upgraded buttons)

And the Optical Left Right pickup:

Here's the Road riot style "yoke" (again it is only left-right, so not a true "yoke")

Rear view(notice no external gears/etc:

And inside view:

You can see the Left-Righ pot in this image, as well as the giant "shaker" moter for the rumble effect.

Here's the last pic of the Left-Right sensing setup:

Sorry about so many pictures...
But I figured some of you might like to know the differences! :)

If I ever get around to building one, I will probably use PC joystick handles for the grips (Gravis Destroyer).  Pretty cheap and should look okay.

The nice thing with Menace's design is it's easy to adapt to different style grips.

menace's design looked good i thought, but one thing i would change are the kid's liught thingees. happs has hand grips which look to be for a byo yoke... but they're definetly more expensive than the light thingees.

I noticed that there was a control panel.  However, I did not know that there was a difference between the control panel for an upright arcade cabinet and the control panel for a cockpit arcade cabinet.

What is the difference?

The cockpit control panel is "taller" - it has a black section along the bottom under the graphics.  The upright cp stops at the bottom edge of the graphics.
