Ultimarc vs. Happ
« on: June 17, 2004, 01:37:17 pm »
Hello, I am working on building my first cabinet and need to order the joysticks and buttons.  I was wondering what people prefer the happ super or the T-stik plus.  If I do order from Ultimarc i was wondering if the trackball there can be wired to the computer with an mouse hack instead of the  opti-pac.

Apples and oranges -

Happ Super is long throw, fairly light spring pressure, a little sloppy, good for circular motion in 8-way games.  Difficult to switch to 4-way mode and not good for 4-way games.

T-Stick Plus is extremely short throw, moderate to stiff spring pressure, precise, okay for 8-way games, good for 4-way games, and easily switchable between the two.

Plus I've heard great things about the Happs Perfect 360 optical stick for many games.  OTOH, I got two T-stik pluses and couldn't be happier--only used the 8->4way switching once or twice, but it makes a huge difference when you need it.

The T-stiks are more versatile than the Supers; so, given a choice between the two, I'd go with the T-stiks.

I think that the RetroBlast! reviews do a good job of showing the differences between the Ultimarc and Happ joysticks.
