Rapid fire buttons for cheaters like me
« on: June 15, 2004, 06:36:23 pm »
Is there any way to program a standard button as rapid fire other than hacking a gamepad with rapid fire (which I have done and love) or pushing the button real fast?  I know, I know, it's not authentic and I am a filthy cheater jerk, but I don't care.  I just want to play games like Wrestlemania without making enough noise to annoy a construction crew.

If you can find a microswitch that when you push the the button down it dowsn't close the circuit, but sends a pulse (many times for your request), then yes.  Or even more simpler, there are switches available that are push on-push off, so pushing it once will set autofire on.

Otherwise, no.  ;D
The internet, hey... so they have that on computer's now???

Some keyboard encoders can do it (the late great MK64 could... but didn't do a great job with repeats).

the best is to download a version of mame that does it.  Mameplus I think handles it.  I don't remember what others.  That way you can set the games you like repeats in... without messing up others.

This won't work - This just creates a stuck down switch and MAME does not read this as Radid-Fire. Play Tiger-Heli.  With the Fire button held down, the ship shoots about 3 times a second, much slower than you could press it.

MAMEPlus is a good idea, if it works.

Or you could build this - http://members.rogers.com/druins22/arcade/rapid.html

There was also a very old thread on the board discussing this.
