wood cp as metal cp

why couldn't you just cut a piece of wood for a cp that has the same height as a metal one? i forgot about this, but what size thickness is a metal control panel? wouldn't this solve the problem for joysticks that are meant for a metal cp and are too short for a wood one?

The metal that is used for metal CPs is usually pretty thin.  We're talkin' like less than 1/8", maybe less than 1/16...

To use wood at that thickness wouldn't work in the slightest.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

oh, okay. i thought for a metal cp it was about 1/4". i can see how wood wouldn't work. i was wondering how you would cut metal at 1/4" without using a blowtorch  ;D, but makes more sense for it to be 1/8 or 1/16"

Unless it was a particularly tough but malleable type of wood, some kind of wood that even if it were in a sheet 2mm thick would still be strong enough, like steel! That's it, you could use steel.
