need help with theme
« on: June 13, 2004, 03:42:56 pm »
ok....M.A.D. CAB guy here again....

M = Music
A = Arcade
D = DVD

soo.....keeping that in mind, I was thinking of the left side being music related (band logos, album cover art, etc...) the middle (front, under CP, middle of CP, etc) would be arcade related, since the cabinet is in a "arcade" shape already.....and the right would be movie related (movie posters, items, etc...)

Does anyone think this is a good idea?  I'm really upset, cause I need a theme for the graphics, and I can't decide on anything original.  I don't want to plaster a million little logos and characters everywhere, nor do I want to have the cabinet in 1 solid colour without any sort of graphics on it.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

The M.A.D. CAB

The real question is what would you like.  Once you can answer that, you will have your answer.  You are the one that has to live with whatever cabinet you build.

Just a thought - for the marquee (and any other artwork I guess), maybe use your idea with a big musical note(s) gradually changing to some arcade type image (like a big Defender ship(s) or something from a game you like) then gradually changes to a movie reel...  Instead of having a bunch of little imiages, just use bigger more "generic" images.  If you are good at Photoshop, bring in 3 largew images (music/game/movie) and try getting them to blend together....

Just a thought.  I like your idea of a theme though, making an all in 1 type cab.

:) Rotate or die! :)

Don't be upset. I know exactly how it feels. I am pretty ready to start ordering the parts and building my cabinet and the only thing that holds me back is that I don't have a name, theme and graphics for my cabinet. I was pretty annoyed with not having a good idea for these because I want everything to be planned before I start.

So I just decided to take it easy and wait until I come up with something I am happy with and meanwhile I am collecting theme ideas, playing around with names, browsing the artwork forums and various other art related sites fishing for the right theme. Something will pop up eventually.

well, the problems would be getting pics big enough, but you could always pick one star from each and put a full body pic on each side.  I don't know what you're into, but for instance: James Hetfield on once side jammin out on one side, Angelina Jolie on the oposite side looking all hot and whatever, and then a Pic of Akuma on the front, doing that whole glowing emblem on his back thing and looking like a badass.  Seems like that would be much easier, simpler, and not as tacky as having a billiong and one pics on there.  Like I said though, getting the pics might be hard...because i don't know how big you could Kinkos to make a pic/sticker for you.
The default personal text is is "I'm a llama!"???  I guess that makes me an emperor with a new a groove.

i'm thinking of a central (main) LARGE pic on each side, with a few smaller ones blended nicely.....

I've already got an idea for the music side.......NO WAY i'm putting Metallica on this thing.....not that i don't like their music....i just can't stand them b/c of the whole MP3 controversy......(I buy all my music...and have TONS of CD's and vinyl......so any little whiny artist that complains MP3's are taking money from them are f'ing stupid)

Hmm.. this is way out there, but the name of your cab in MAD?  hehe.. you could always use Claw and his flunkys from Inspector Gadget.  Or you could have a MAD Magazine theme.  Like I said, probably not what you're looking for, but just thought I would throw that out there.

Inspector Gadget eh....hmmmmm.....yeah...not what i'm looking for...but didn't remember that.

I did think about the MAD Magazine as a theme for the cab (since I'm a HUGE fan.....haven't read it in years, but i've got well over 100 Magazines in my collection).  It would be AWESOME if i could some how get the artists from MAD to draw Alfred E. Newman playing on an arcade cabinet.  I'm sure they would and feature it in their mag.  That would be SO BOSS!!!!!

James Hetfield on once side jammin out on one side
I agree about the whole deal with Metallica being a bunch of whiners.  I was just using it as a suggestion, meant no offence.  Although, I think I'll reread my posts from now on because I evidently can't type.
