Golden Tee in a Mame cab?
« on: June 11, 2004, 08:09:13 am »
I have a Golden Tee 97 PCB and want a switchable GTG/Mame solution for my cab, can it be done? Yea I know theres a PC version of GTG but its not the same, and I want the real deal. If I have a PC, TV, and control panel connected to an I-Pac can I do this or do I need something else to use my PCB?

You could use a KVM/data switch to switch bewteen the two, one like this would do the job. I've used a similar switch to switch between a Mame PC and arcade PCB, but that was using an arcade monitor. You'll need some expensive hardware to get the GoldenTee PCB to display on a TV, I can't remember what they're called right now...

Edit: The hardware you'd need to display GoldenTee on a regular TV is the JROK. I've tried contacting JRok a few times, but have never gotten a response. So I don't know what they cost, but I hear they work great.

Well, the ideal solution would be to get a jpac, arcadevga, and an arcade monitor.  Then it is simple plug and play, other than switching the tball over.  Of course a mouse hack molex plug can solve that :)

yeah,a  signal converter for video signals can be expensive.  It might be just worth while to sell the ipac and tv, go with the above suggestion, and modify your cab accordingly.  You will get a better picture (there is signal loss during conversions) and it would cost about just as much.  And it would be done right :)

Those JROKs look pretty simple (but I'm not expert). What would make them so expensive?

There's not a huge market for these things. Having custom PCBs made can be expensive in small batches. I'm sure if he was fabbing thousands of them and selling them in every BestBuy he could sell them for a lot less.

Note: TwoBits sell the same thing for $199 !!!

I know you said you didnt want the computer version of golden tee in your cab, but thats probably the cheapest and easiest way. I am going to do that, I own the game right now, the graphics are the same, and the commentator voices, what they say, and the sound effects are all the same, the only difference is it kind of help you out, it lets you know where to hit the ball and how hard to swing and everything. All in all its actually easier than the real golden tee, and everything is almost the same, you can get it on ebay for about 3 dollars. Just thought id say that, thanks.

i have a golden tee machine with all the pcb's (96-2001) and the gt pc version. i think the pc verion is harder to play. i consistantly shoot from -10 to -16 with my best game at -20 on the machine. i only shoot from par to -6 on the pc version.

Does the signal loss wholly distort the picture, or does it give 99 of the 100% authenticity that purists obsess over like with TVs vs. arcade monitors?

Spend lots of Cash- Buy products to get ur Golden tee to work on a tv.

Spend about 4 bucks, or free if you already own it- Just use the PC version.

I actually bought the game thinking it was going to be nothing compared to the arcade, and it being only 3 dollars on ebay, and I was in awe, Its even got the same beginning music, same player screens, same graphics, same noises, commentator voices, everything, I dont know what you are missing, but im saying if it is going to save you a few hundred bucks, and you still can use a trackball for the pc version, use the pc version!

Its the little things like mouse calibrating, not saving settings, entering names with keyboards, games shutting down midway for no reason, no hassles you would expect on a GTG cab

Ive confirmed it with other GTG PC users, its a bug. It crashes randomly in games on computers with newer gfx boards (like post-2000) or new DirectX versions
