how can i remove old side art without damaging lamanate

Picked up a decent cab and i want to remove the old worn side art without damageing the pretty good looking lamanate.

Furthermore, can you Paint laminate?  For touch up?

Two words: heat gun.

I think Peale assumed it was a sticker.  Which it ought to be.  You can peel off a sticker...actually a heat gun will probably make it peel off on its own.

Just go easy on the heat, it's fairly easy to blister the laminate with a heat gun. On the other hand, if you need to remove any of the laminate, the heat gun can do that as well.

ok, what about painting on top of laminate.  IS that possible.  What about touch up?  Can i just use some joint compound to fill a crack and paint over it?  Or should i just rip off all the laminate and start on bare wood?

The laminate looks good mostly though, i can hide most damage under t molding

I'd tend to think you'll have a tough time getting paint to stick to laminate. They do make crack filler for it, though you'd likely have to talk to a cabinet shop or distributor to find the stuff.

Definetely a heat gun to the side art, and some kind of SANDABLE and PAINTABLE filler to the small crack.

You could try a good coat or two of primer on the laminate and then finish it off with color of your choice. Best to try with any paint you have laying around for costs sake. Just in case it doesn't come out how you'd like. Or you could relaminate it with something else. Then you'll either slap it on top of the old laminate, or remove the old with a heat gun and then go from there. Then take a razor blade to the sides to clean it up.

i may actually keep the green.  I just wanted to paint over the damage spots.  I'll really have to take a good look at it to decide.

I assume that you are all refering to a actualy hot air blower, if so, I would just suggest a hair dryer.  It's easier, shouldn't burn the laminate and a pair of tweezers will slowly leep the stickers off.

Hair dryer will work too, if he doesn't have a heat gun.  It'll just take a little longer.  

If you're burning the side art with a heat gun, you're holding it there way too long.  Should only be a few seconds to liquify the adhesive.
