Speaker location?
« on: June 09, 2004, 03:31:17 pm »
I am following the standard upright in the book and I have noticed a lot of people (including the book) put the speakers pointing down towards the player...

Since I also want to use my cab for playing music, would it be better to put it where the marquee is and just use a shorter marquee?  In other words, point out?

The cab is always going to be in a small room so it may not really matter.

Thanks!

Nothing wrong in experimenting with that (might actually look pretty good).  But I'm thinking it may not really matter too, too much.  Actually back when I was younger I had a jukebox record player where the speakers were pointing down to the floor and I remember it sounding pretty good.

There are also other locations you can place them (right above the CP for example).

Consider the pros and cons of each placement:

1. If pointing down to the player, then you will get some nice stereo sound when you're right there playing. But if pointing out, you'll have speakers RIGHT AT YOUR HEAD level. Do you want that?

2. For music it's best to have speakers widely spaced out, for maximum stereo effect. So even if they are mounted in the marquee and pointing out, if you're sitting across the room, you're not going to get much stereo seperation.

My suggestion: Mount them in the traditional way, but build in a bypass connection so you can hookup external stereo speakers to the whole system, and place those speakers far apart, as you would with the standard stereo/cd player/home theatre setup.
NO MORE!!
