Got a cool idea to make a spinner...
« on: August 02, 2002, 09:26:15 pm »
 :)

Hi,

Later I was helping my girlfriend to clean
our garage and I have found a old bicycle wheel...

The wheel was unusable but the core where the bearings
are, seem to be fine...

So I cut the rod to isolate the core of the
wheel... the only problem is a wheel that go usually
at the back of a bicyle and the part that have a lot of
spike gave me some hard time...

What do you think of this idea to recyle a old bicyle wheel to make a spinner?

thanks
Reg

No offense, but I don't think it's a very good idea.  I mean, why go through all the trouble, and then just to end up with a hacked up peice of junk on your control panel?  What kind of spinner knob would you find to fit a bicycle axle?  If all you are after is the bearing, just find a more suitable one at a hardware store.

I would just think that your money and time would be better spent elsewhere, that's all.

bicycle bearings are meant to work with the shaft horizontal. The one's i've had get hard to turn when you tighten them up enough to eliminate axial play.

For making a spinner, you put the hacked part UNDER the control panel.

So if you can get it to work, it should look great!...

But I think the roller blade might actually work better.  Why?

easier to screw into the cabinet and smaller.

Also, you could take a second wheel and use it as the weight (after you stopped it from rotating that is.
