PC Power Supply Question
« on: June 06, 2004, 02:36:57 am »
Hi all,

I'm using a spare PC power supply (AOpen microATX Model FSP145-60SI) for all of my illumination needs, however, I've hit a brick wall.

Does anyone know which wires to short/connect to force the power supply to power up?

I just assumed that it was the "Power Good Signal" wire to one of the Ground wires.  After doing this and nothing happening, I can gladly report that I am dead set wrong.  :-[

Any help would be great.

Cheers guys.

I wrote up how to do this on my website. It's toward the bottom.

If I can jump on this thread, after performing the hack which wires from the molex should be used to lets say power up some cooling fans?  I think the molex connectors have 4 wires (off the top of my head) right?

Well assuming you don't have molex type cooling fans that you can just connect to the PS you can tap into the yellow (12-volt) and black (ground) wire to power them. Or you can use the red (5-volt) and black (ground) to power a 5-volt source.

To see how to hook up lights or fans to a PC Power supply see blakesmame website:

http://www.blakesmame.com/power.htm

It has a small write up on this.

You can also use the 12 volt  (yellow) and the 5 volt (red) to power a fan at 7 volts...

Actually, I wanted it mainly for the 12V fluros that I have hooked up for the marquee.

I just bought some cheap 500mm long workshop fluros that run off a car battery.  Solves my lighting problem.  :D
