Swapping joysticks on a cocktail cabinet
« on: August 02, 2002, 01:46:15 pm »
Hey, all.  I was hoping someone here may be able to help me.  I'm an amateur, here, in terms of fixing and building cabinets, so I figured I'd start building up my knowledge little by little.  ^_^

I got my dad a used cocktail cabinet Ms. Pac-Man machine a while ago, but the 2p joystick is broken (doesn't move at all).  I bought a brand new joystick and I was hoping to put that into the 1P side and move the used 1P joystick into the 2P side.  However, getting to the joystick is tougher on a cocktail cabinet than it is on a normal cabinet.

How does one go about getting to the joystick?  Do I actually have to take the entire monitor off the machine before I can get to the joysticks?  It looks like there are a couple of latches I can unlatch to allow me to lift the entire monitor out, but I can only find latches on one side of the cabinet (the side with the coin door).  So I'm stumped.  It definitely isn't as simple as your standard vertical cabinet.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

- James

I'm working on my cocktail cab right now...

Mine is similar in style to the Ms. Pac-Man / Galaga ones. Once I unlatched the top and flipped the monitor over, there are 2 wingnuts  that hold onto 2 bolts coming from the control panels on the sides of the cab. After I took the wingnuts off, the panels just "fell" right off. I was able to take on of the panels off of the control panel to get in and redo it. Nice and easy.

(This is gonna be good 'cause I'm gonna build new panels altogether to include a 2 1/4 trackball, spinner, 4/8 way stick and 3 buttons on each panel.)

Word.
