Do you feel like you hate him for that still?
When I was in high school I tried out for sports.  During the physical they were asking the usual questions.  And they asked the one about chest pain, and I said yes, sometimes I get a little chest pain under a lot of exertion.
So they put me thru all these tests, including some rather invasive ones. They found that my heart was slightly enlarged and not outputing @ peak capacity.  They gave me some medication and recommended I take it easier.
When I was in high school I was *very* active.  I didn't run, but I swam during the summer, and I always biked wherever I had to go (since I had no license or car) and that was upwards of 20 miles day, and in Vermont, you know most of that is hills.
So I wanted to letter in something my senior year.  My parents, worried that I'd die, refused to sign the permission forms so I could participate.  From a parenting POV I can kind of understand, but I'd never stand in the way of my kids wanting something like that.
I was in track, cross country, cross country skiing...and I had to leave them all because they wouldn't sign the damn forms.  Yet I was still exerting a high level of physical activity.
To this day, 14 years later, I resent them for that.  And here's the kicker: I recently had a physical, and told the doctor about what they found when I was a teenager.  He sent me for tests for updated results.  Now, I hadn't taken that medication since I was 18 or so, simply because I felt fine, and was on my own and couldn't afford it.  They found *nothing* wrong.  They speculate it was just part of my growing cycle, and my body outgrew it.
