Hey software developers
« on: June 03, 2004, 11:20:36 pm »
Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone is able to create a software program that would allow a user the ability to customize button and joystick placements on my GameCab control panels?  Once all options are picked and output file would have to be generated to myself and the user. Now that I am ready to re-open GameCab I have been toying around with the this idea but I just do not know where to start (and I also do not have the skills or the time to learn it).
You can feel free to contact me at cruvola@gamecab.com and I can go over all of the details.

Thanks
Charlie
The Flight Yoke Release date is September 10, 2005.

The typical problem with software engineering...the requirements are ill defined and the customer does not know what they want.  Anyhow, take a look at his website:

http://www.gamecab.com/gamecab%20router.htm

It looks like he is building his own CNC Router and he wants to program it.

Hmm...

I thought he meant something like the flash control panel builder thingy.  Forgot what it was called though.

Charlie,

Just sent you an email.  I can do this for you as long as we can define the exact requirements.

Thanks,
Todd

I agree with generic_eric.  I bet he wants a flash controller designer, like Custom Arcade's, but a little grander. http://www.customarcades.com/granddaddy/black_black_black_controller.htm

Hey Again,

Sorry about the confusion, it sounded better in my head but it wasn't clear in the message.  I have to remember to stay off this board when I am working on 3 hours of sleep ;D

Anyway, here is what I am aiming for:

I'm looking for someone who can develop on online Java or Shockwave applet for my website.  The purpose of this applet is to allow the customer the ability to customize their control panel button and joystick hole placement before it is produced.
When you click on this applet on the GameCab website you would be presented with a blank control panel  top down view of the 2 Player Deluxe model.  The all you need to do is simply drag and drop your buttons and joysticks to the desired locations on your control panel.  When you are happy with your design and want to proceed in ordering the control panel you simply click a submit button.  After the user clicks submit the Java/Shock applet would then generate a report with the X and Y coordinates in the form of a text file.
Here is the fun part:  I would then feed these coordinates into the CNC router and it would cut the button holes as requested from the X Y co-ordinate dump generated by the applet.  Once the control panel top is completed, I would then attach it to the base of the control panel and ship it out to the customer.

One example of what I am looking for is very close to the Interactive Control Panel Design shockwave applet http://www.move360media.com/mame/icpd/ICPD.htm.  Although as stated above I would need the X and Y coordinate results of the customers creation to be exported to a text file.

If you are interested in the creation of this applet you can feel free to contact me and we can talk about compensation for the app.

Thanks

Charlie

This sounds neat--just make sure that when they drag and drop they can snap to exact measurements if need be--i would be really mad if i drag and dropped but i was off by 1/4" in my buttons spacing and they looked all cock-eyed when the panel showed up--just a thought...maybe i'm too anal :-X
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

I agree with Menace, the panel that the user sees should have dimensions on it, so if I know I want the left edge of Stick 1 to be 1-1/2-inch from the edge of the CP, I know that I placed it there.

I agree with the both of you .  In my eyes the software would be what wold make or break this whole thing.  Trust me, I would not ship a CP if it looked cock-eyed.
As of now, I have a person who may be interested in the creation of this applet, which is good news.  We will see how everything turns out.
On another note I'm pretty sure I'm going to accept CAD plans (Turbocad, etc) for CP's as well.  These can be online within a week.
Guys, as always, Thanks for you help and input!!!

When I made that assertion it was a late at night and based off of looking at his website for 30 seconds.  Anyway, sounds like an interesting app.  Good Luck!
