Cocktail Monitor Inquiry HELP********
« on: June 02, 2004, 03:19:07 pm »
Hello,

I am building a mame cocktail table with a side control panel to play horizontal games. I am mostly going to be playing old school games(95%)

I was planning on using an ArcadeVGA card with a CGA monitor.

My questions are:

Will a vertical(cocktail) monitor have any trouble displaying horizontally?

Would it just be better to get a VGA arcade monitor with a normal video card?

What do you guys think would be the best monitor for my application?? I am going for authentic old school feel.

Is the difference between a CGA arcade monitor and a VGA arcade monitor REALLY that big of a difference if I am using a fast enough computer to handle the stretching?

I am new to all of this and I really appreciate your help!

Thanks!

I have built a cocktail with a WG u3100 arcade vga monitor.  The picture looked really good even though it was stretched. (Used a matrox G400) No-one ever noticed it was not the true resolution, except me of course.  So I guess the answer is no it is not a "big" difference unless of course the true arcade resolution is a must have.  If you are going for the authentic old school and don't need vga or svga I would definitely go with the cga. (arcadevga will do vga and svga interlaced on a cga monitor)

Also I don't believe there are Horizontal or Vertical specific monitors.   I also had a third panel for Horizontal games and it was no problem.

hope this helps
