Power Supply: ATX or Peter Chou?
« on: June 02, 2004, 02:59:57 pm »
I got my Pro Vision monitor today! YAH! And my blue t-molding! YAH!

So I'm at a point now where I can assembled everything I have. I just have one small question that is left:

Which kind of power supply should I be using? My Cabinet is a JAMMA cab with a switching power supply, and an iso transformer.

I will be ditching the iso and monitor, and putting in a new monitor that does not require an iso block.

Next, I'm gonna keep it JAMMA, but will have a MAME system in there, with a JPAC.

So...... I was thinking of using a PC ATX power supply, but on the other hand, this cab will still be JAMMA and should also work with JAMMA arcade boards. This requires the switching power supply. Or does it?

They both output +-5v, +12v... I think the only difference is the amperage.

???

In my opinion, I'd keep the Peter Chou in it as it's a commercial grade power supply which is made to be repaired not thrown away.

No, it can't.  There are all kinds of power leads off a computer power supply. 3.2 v, etc.

I'd keep the power supply (and the iso for that matter) in the cab. You might want to use it to hook up some lights or something. Run the 12V off of it and you don't have to worry about hacking into the computer.
