Attaching JAMMA Trackball (Championship Bowling)
« on: May 31, 2004, 12:46:11 pm »
I'm gutting an old (1989?) Championship Bowling machine (I know, it's rare and not emulated, but it's all that I've got!) and turning it into a MAME arcade.  Obviously, there is a trackball already available, which is connected to the JAMMA harness and has a power connector as well (if I recall correctly).

My question is simple: Am I set?  Is it now only a matter of finding a place for it on my slowly-getting-more-cluttered CP?  If not, what do I need to do?  Thanks!

Is it an original cabinet?  If so, you might want to take pictures and submit them for KLOV before you trash it.

Oh, and if the board hasn't been dumped, you might want to think about sending it in for dumping so they can add it to MAME... http://unemulated.emuunlim.com/    Or you can donate/sell the board to them.

Please!!!  Wait!!!

Can you do a favor for the community?

If it's not too late, can you take pictures of the cabinet, marquee, and control panel, then send me a message at mrdo_emu@hotmail.com, or a pm here or at the MAME messageboards as to how to obtain them for future archives.

Also, can we arrange shipping of the PCB so that it can be dumped?  There are people who can help if you can't afford it yourself.

Are these pictures good enough?  I haven't quite decided what I'm going to do with the boards/marquee/etc (they're actually my brother's).  I still have a cab to (break and then eventually) finish!  I would love to "give back" to the community, but I'm not quite sure how my bro feels :)  Let me know what else I can do...

Dude, if you got Mr DO!s attention, it's a hot commodity.  Ship the board to him, he'll dump it.

Even better, after that's done, save the whole thing.  There are people who will give you another cabinet for that one.  Where are you located?

I'd be willing to donate money to either have the boards dumped or I can contribute to a fund to buy the whole machine to save it from destruction.

It appears that the cabinet is generic. It looks identical to the flat packed cabs offered up in Edmenton (sp?) Canada. If he just gives up the control panel, marquee, back glass, peels off the side art for scanning.... you'd have the full cab. I'm sure him or his brother would sell it for a reasonable price.

He can keep the rest of it. It just becomes wood after that.

I think that game is only in conversion.  Like world rally.  They converted old games to it.  Whomever made the game trashed it.

I had a sparta bowling game that just ripped up a nice centipede cab.

...peels off the side art for scanning....

If he does that he'll destroy it.  He'll need to photograph it dead on, several shots, close up.

As rare as that game seems it might be worth something, I would loose the value on it by maming it.  Especially if all the artwork and cabinet are in good condition and it is a running game.

You can pickup generic cabinets for dirt cheap if you look in the right places.  I got my dynamo double dragon II cabinet for free!

what i would do:

1. email Randy Hoffman wraith@mame.net of the mame dumping project and make arrangements to have the boards dumped by Guru.

2. once i got the boards back i would put them and the marquee, bezel and control panel up for sale on ebay.

3. smile :) and feel good knowing i contributed to one of my favorite hobbies.

This is Randy Hoffman of the MAMEDEV team and the Dumping Project. "Championship Bowling," made for Romstar by Seta, is one of our Most Wanted games. Please contact me at wraith [at] mame.net or mrgoodwraith [at] yahoo.com, Zach. If you guys are willing to swap out the whole cab, or at least send us the board and preserve the game's artwork elements, we'll work with you and gladly reimburse you for any reasonable expenses you and your brother might incur.

I really would like to help the community, as I would just be a bored 22 year-old without it.

However, there are a few issues with me donating the Championship Bowling hardware/marquee/etc.  It's not mine--it's my brother's.  So while *I* have no problem with giving it up, my brother, who is not involved with my MAME dealings, does not sense the community aspect of what is going on.  Not to say he's a bad guy; he merely knows he has something of value and doesn't want to give it up for that reason.  So between a rock (my brother) and a hard place (the MAME community that I respect and want to support).  So in the mean time, I can take pictures and do whatever else necessary, but I'd need to intice my brother a little more unfortuantely.  Have any ideas?  I'll let you know if things change!

Zach

(PS. People still have not answered my original question, which is why this post is here in the first place  8))

You don't think you have to donate anything.  You can send the boards to the MAME dumping project, they dump them, then they send them back to you.

I'm sure there are people who would like to have scans of  the artwork as well.  Same deal, you don't have to donate anything, just allow people to scan them.

Where are you located geographically?  Maybe someone on the dumping team can visit you and dump the board at your place.  (I'm just guessing here, I'm not on the dumping team.)

Regardless, try to impress on your brother the importance of preserving games for MAME.  Heck, have him read this thread.

Thanks Peale :)

Are pictures 16 and 17 on this page good enough?  http://home.rochester.rr.com/sparer/good/cab_pics.htm

As for the dumping project, I like the concept!  I will get to that as soon as my cab starts to take shape.  I will not destory any artwork or hardware in the mean time.  Sound good to everyone?  The blessed Champioship Bowling cab is safe!

Glad to hear that. If your brother is interested in getting a good price for the board or cab, we might be able to purchase it from him, although we would greatly prefer to borrow the board just long enough to dump it than buy the board or cab.

Thanks!!  Everything saved.  As RB said on the MAME boards, if you can take some in-game pics, that would help eventual emulation.

As far as the board goes, it seems like all the right people are paying attention.  If it can be borrowed, rented, or bought, it would be appreciated by all.
