TV placement in my cabinet???
« on: May 31, 2004, 12:45:08 am »
I'm starting to cut out the peices for my cabinet tomorrow!!!! I've done soooo much research on this in teh last 2 weeks that my brain is full. I'm going with LuSiD's plan with very minor changes. In all my research, I still have not come across a guide for how to correctly place the monitor in the cabinet. I know that I need to build a shelf for the monitor to sit on, but I haven't gotten answers to the following. Remember, I'm looking for answers with respect to a LuSiD design cabinet!!!

1 - Is the monitor supposed to be centered in the cabinet so that it is equal distance from the top of the control panel and bottom of the marquee??
2 - How far in should the monitor screen be set back into the cabinet.
3 - How far in should the bezel glass be set back into the cabinet?

Thanks for your answers!

UGH! 31 views and not a single reply?!?   Okay, maybe I was too restrictive when I said I wanted replies that only related to LuSiD's plans. At this point I'm willing to get info from ANYONE about how deep they mounted their TV/Arcade Monitor/Computer Monitor into their cabinet.

Just in case you still don't understand what I'm, asking for, look at this crude picture I drew and it should explain my question better!!!

This is a matter of taste.  Are you going to put a bezel on your TV?  If so, place your bezel up against your plexi and then the TV directly behind it.  There is no right or wrong answer here.

Also when positioning your TV "height" wise, center the tube not the unit.

Demon, I knew it!!! I knew that someone was going to say "It depends on what your taste is"!!!! But hey, at least you replied!!! ;D Anyway, can you tell me specifically what you did??? I am planning on placing a bezel (prolly based on tailgunners "$2 bezel guide") and a piece of tinted glass on top of it. I'm assuming that means that my Tv picture tube may be as deep as 2 - 3", does this seem right? Again, what did you do? When you say

I'm assuming you mean to center it horizontally and vertically, correct???

Correct in your assumption.  On my regular arcade cabinets the monitor usually  sits back about 4"  This is ually because of the bezel that was already in the unit when I got it.  Some of them are touching the plexi [Don't do it.  ;) ]

In my current build plan, it will sit back an inch.  This is in a showcase cab mind you, but you can look on jakobuds page and its got some shown.

I'm also using a loose copy of Lucids design. my plexi is an inch back from front of cab - bezel (not arrived yet) will sit 1.2" behind, tv again behind this and all will be rosey - beer open , stand back and admire........ i hope

garryb, I'd love to see some pix of your cab! Especially some good shots of the monitor and it's depth in the cabinet! Any chance you could post some on this thread?!? Thanks!

Ok, I would want replies if i were you, like not "it can be done anyway" so...

Basically, put your tv in at the same angle you have the cabinet tilted, so if the area ur putting ur tv in is slanted back, you would have to make a shelf that is angled so the tv is the same angle, like in that drawing u made, the tv should put pushed right against your bezel and plexi, hope that helps, i didnt read the whole thread, so if i repeated exactly what someone else said, im sorry.
