Spy Hunter Yoke and Shifter: HELP :)
« on: May 30, 2004, 08:34:00 pm »
I picked up a Spy Hunter CP a few months ago and am just now starting to take it apart.  I was able to get everything apart except for the shifter.  The shifter doesn't seem to have a pin etc to allow it to come apart.  I looked at the schematics and it seems the only way I can get it apart is to unscrew the knob on top.  Either this thing is fused on or it isn't meant to be screwed off because I can't seem to do it.

Anyone own a Spy Hunter who might know what to do?

On a related note I have no idea how I'm going to interface the yoke since there is only a sprocket at the end of it.  I'll have to read up on how to work with something like that.

the knob is almost impossible to remove. i removed my spyhunter shifter from the control panel by using a small punch and hammering out the tiny pin that holds the shifter shaft into the shifter body.

at the end of your spyhunter steering wheel, where the sprocket is, there should be a small potentiometer. you will see it turn when u turn the steering wheel. the spyhunter pot is a 1k pot but its possible to replace the pot with a 5k pot and hack it with a dual strike controller. do a search of the boards for more info on the dual strike.

Great, thanks a lot for the info.  I'll try a punch.  From what I can tell the pin is hollow, I can see light on the other side.  There is no way the handle is unscrewing it is pretty much permanently attached.

I didn't notice a pot but I'll look again.  I need to get my hands on some plastic inserts since the springs have almost worn down the metal plate from rubbing.

a small gear is attached to the pot that meshes with the big gear on the steering wheel.

I have that peice but not the pot it seems and also don't have the 2nd (smaller) gear.  Now I'm wondering if I can ever get it to work without the 2nd gear.   :(
