Ultimate Arcade II Kit or X-Arcade Cabinet
« on: May 29, 2004, 10:20:56 pm »
I have been thinking of buying either the 27" Ultimate Arcade II Kit for $399 plus shipping (approx. $143?) from Mameroom.com

http://www.cybertechdesign.net/mameroom/uaIIkit_info.asp

or the X-Arcade Machine for $1099.95 (already includes shipping)

http://www.x-arcade.com/htm/cabinet.shtml

I am also thinking about adding the philips PS1127 27" TV monitor because it has a VGA input. It is $265 refurb.

http://www.electronicsnation.com/en/products/flypage/prod_id/PS1127

Given the fact that even after adding the cost of the X-Arcade controller ($149.95) to the Ultimate Arcade II kit and $143 for shipping it is only a few hundred dollars cheaper than the X-Arcade machine, would you consider the X-Arcade machine a better option for the monitor I selected above?

Your opinions on both cabinets and the monitor would be greatly appreciated.

Please take into account that I don't have a lot of time to spend fixing up the cabinet.

yeah dude, is this even a comparison?

I'm not too sure what that X-arcade thing is, but it is definitely not an arcade cabinet.  Snaaake nailed it when he said x-arcade bookshelf.

If you have to get one of those, I'd throw my vote to the UAII.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

I've played on one of the X-Arcade cabs - they have one on display at Fry's about a mile from my house. Nothing special if you ask me. They actually put holes in the cp so that you can access the pinball buttons on the side of their custom controller. And the cab is pretty wobbly. And ordinary. No art. No monitor. Funny-shaped marquee. Blah.
Go for the Ultimate Arcade. At least you'll have some satisfaction knowing you put some effort in to the creation of your cabinet.

Thank you everyone for the info. I really appreciate it.

I have elimited X-Arcade as an option based on your advice. Other people have told me that Ultimate Arcade II is not a very good option either.

I was recommended The SlikStik and ArcadeShopper cabinet's since they are already laminated and both are SlikStik compatible.

or

http://www.slikstik.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=8

If I go with one of the options above, what parts would I have to add to complete the arcade? monitor (the D9200 Wells Gardner has been strongly recommended), computer, etc., etc.

Thanks a lot.
