Unique coin slot -- need help
« on: May 27, 2004, 11:37:31 am »
I'm doing some work on an old Buck Rogers: Planet of Zoom sitdown cabinet.

The coin slots were in the arm rest, so you put the coins into a horizontal input. (coins inserted straight down into the mech). The problem is that this original arm rest piece was missing. Someone installed a piece of ply-wood and cut a couple of slots directly into the wood.  I've searched all the usual places and haven't seen any kind of coin input that installs on a level surface.

Has anyone seen anything like this?  Anyone have a Buck Rogers with the coin inserts intact?  Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Rocky

Those types are common on gambling machines and some kiddie rides. Go to Happ Controls and click on the "Gaming" section -> Coin & currency -> Top Coin Entry. Also under the Coin Mechs section is "Back Channel".

Coin Mech (www.coinmech.com) also sells these type of coin entry (a.k.a. 'back channel').

Thanks for the information, Ken.  I found what I was looking for at Happs and coinmech.com

Happs wants $22 it! (no pricing info at coinmech.com) I'm talking just the little metal piece that you put the coin into, like on the top of an old pay phone.

So, does anyone have something like this laying around? Any top coin acceptors in your junk bins? Anyone know of a cheaper source for this?

I DO have one of those, but I am not quite sure where it is. I THINK it is probably in one of my MANY boxes of "coin op parts I will never need, but can't throw away".

I have BOXES of oddball stuff like that pulled from cabinets (mostly transformer assemblies, interior coin stuff, and wiring harnesses, etc).

I will give a quick look-see this weekend and see if I can find it.

Also, check ebay for video poker control panels, as they often have them, and that is what mine is or was on.

Coin Mech doesn't have pricing listed as you have to buy from a Coin Mech dealer/distributor. You could also check your local Yellow Pages ("Amusement Devices")  for a local distributor where you could buy the part from their parts counter in person.
