Candy cab users - need advice, getting one...

OK, after years of eyeing those Japanese sitdown cabs I'm finally getting one. It's A Super Neo 29 Candy. Will also be my first real JAMMA cab. This is the one:



I've also ordered an ArcadeVGA and J-Pac.

So I should be all set. Mostly.

My question is about sound. I have the option of having them (them being the now-famous Tao bros. at ArcadeInfinity) leave it in standard JAMMA mode (mono) or wiring it for NeoGeo MVS stereo.

Obviously I'm really using it for my PC though, and from what I've read NeoGeo MVS stereo wiring is a bit odd. So what should I do about sound? Any recommendations? Naturally I really want stereo output from the PC, but I'm not sure what to ask for or what I might need to do on my own. This cabinet is in great condition so I'd like to use the built-in components, don't wanna add in some crappy PC speakers or such.

Also - if it's possible, I would like to be able to use the cabinet for real JAMMA PCB's too.

Your best bet Is to ask on the neo geo forums (www.neo-geo.com/forums/)  as there are quite a few people who own the exact cabinet and have also dealt with Arcade Infinity. Take a look at www.hardmvs.com for the differences with jamma and mvs.

I found the speakers in the cabinet (a Type II) to be quite poor and substituted them - running jpac & arcadevga on It and the monitor is excellent.

P.S. I would change the order to a Windy II if they have them as they can output low/med/high on the monitor unlike low/med on the Super 29's. A good site to look at the Windy II's in action is http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Domino/7570/windy2.html - I think they look the best along with the Egret (model I).

Hmm, well too late to change the order, I already made the deal for the Neo, and I really like the Neo. Not really concerned about hires (but yeah it'd be nice), and if needed I'll just do my own speakers as you mentioned.

Too bad the built-in ones aren't so good. But I will try them out anyway.

Speaker wise, www.therealbobroberts.com sells some really cheap speakers.  They are decent (much better then most PC speakers).

but I hacked a system which had two speakers on it....  

I would do this... it SHOULD work...  

Replace the speaker if needed with two new ones.  This might be hard but you have to take it apart to see if its even possible.  

Next...

Hook one speaker through the JPac.  This would be normal.  Then hook the second normal.   There is a good hack speakers to arcade speakers site around here.  But there is two connectors going to the second speaker.

SO.... you hack one speaker like normal.  The one closer to the PC.  Then you hack the second speaker to the jpac...

Then... the speaker connected to the jamma connector is jamma normal... if thats a term

Note:  You do NOT want to modify any wiring on the jamma side at all.  This will allow the quick swap for a real jamma board.
