Get rid of Dell BIOS screen @ startup?

Does anybody know how to get rid of a Dell screen that first comes up on startup?  Thanks!

There may be an option in the BIOS, but I doubt it.  The Dell people like to advertise.

I've got an eMachines motherboard with the same thing.  I'd love to turn it off for good, but that won't happen without a BIOS rewrite.

Actually, my Emachines PC had a BIOS option, something like "Show Logo on Startup" or something, disabling that got rid of the logo.  So  definitely look around in the BIOS, it may be there.

How do I checkout my BIOS?

On powering up, you have to hit a key to enter your BIOS setup.  Not sure what it is on a Dell, but try one of these: [F1] [F2] [ESC] [TAB]

There also may be a message on boot stating what key to hit.

How do I checkout my BIOS?

I tried the three Dells I have access to at the office. On two of them I press the DEL key when starting up to access the BIOS. Typically I just press DEL repeatedly until the BIOS screens come up. DEL is very frequently used on non-Dells.

On the other Dell, I pressed CTRL-ALT-ENTER to access BIOS.

Try <F2> on a Dell, that usually works. You may find an option in the Dell BIOS for "Fast Boot" or something similar. This may disable the Dell splash screen and the memory count!

There are also programs out there that let you change the spash screen.  Check around for one for your particular chipset.  Be careful though, as you can really mess things up if you're not careful!

The only thing I found via Google was:

You will want to set 'Boot-Time Diagnostics Screen' to 'Enabled' in the BIOS. That should do it

From an old forum, though.... I guess this gets rid of Dell logo and shows diagnostics...

Shouldn't you be able to update the BIOS, Peale?  I know  proprietary items are a favorite to use, but the motherboard should be a readily available thing, so I bet you can get a BIOS update and solve that.

I did find a site that said they had BIOS updates for the board, but I'm reluctant to use them, in case they hose the board.  It's not from the manufacturer, or I might try it.

Gotcha.  Also, what about an onboard jumper or switch to clear the BIOS if you can't get at it via normal routes?  Usually there's one or the other, sometimes both.  It may reset your BIOS, but it'll reset the BIOS to defaults, so you won't be hosed that way.

Well, no, it would reset the BIOS to their defaut values, but if I over write the BIOS with a new set, and it's a bunk set, no amount of resetting will fix that.
