maybe someone has seen this problem?
« on: May 25, 2004, 05:09:06 pm »
This is a little lengthy, so I apologize.  I am using AdvanceMame with ArcadeOS.  My cab is DOS only.

My autoexec.bat file loads all of the necessary stuff, and then goes into the mame dir and runs arcadeos.  It should be noted that ALL of the roms I normally list work perfectly.  However, the first game I choose (immediately after booting) always runs EXTREMELY SLOWLY -- so slow, it almost appears to be locked up (black screen for as long as a min, before making horrible noises).  It doesn't matter which game I choose.  This happens with ALL of them.

I can usually escape (by pressing several times) out back to arcadeos, and choose the very same game again, and everything will be fine.  This happens EVERY TIME I boot the machine and try to run a game for the first time.  After that, it never appears to happen again.

Interestingly enough, I can adjust my autoexec.bat file to load advmame and a rom image instead of going to arcadeos, and the game will boot perfectly.  Also, I believe I can remove arcadeos from autoexec.bat and load it manually from the command line (even immediately after boot) to avoid this problem.  My cab normally runs entirely from the control panel (no keyboard).

Has anyone run into this kind of problem?

Thanks...

I don't think most people use DOS for their cabs. Do you use switches in either the autoexec.bat startup for mame or the regular command line startup?

I'm pretty good with DOS, so if you could post your autoexec.bat and config.sys, I'll take a peak through it and see if there's anything that looks weird.

Another thing to try is turning off the sound in ArcadeOS.  I know on my machine I had to turn off the sound in AdvanceMenu, as it was messing up the sound in AdvanceMame for some odd reason.

What kind of sound card?

Do you have smartdrv loaded? emm386?

Also, post your autoexec.bat and your config.sys.
I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.

Please read the wiki!

I use a SB16 ISA.  Please keep in mind that this only happens the very first time a game is chosen, and only when ArcadeOS is automatically loaded from the command line.  I will get my autoexec and config posted asap.

I think you'd be suprised.  So far, all my cabs have been DOS based with ArcadeOS.
