What are the wires on Oscar
« on: July 29, 2002, 04:23:35 pm »
Hi peeps just got an oscar model 2 for the opti-pac and I don't know what the wires are.

There are green, red, black and white, now most prob the red is for 5volts and black is for ground, which means green and white are for the X1 and X2, but which is which.

Also on the same topic, I have got a Happ Rotary Joystick and the wires on there are Yellow, orange, brown and red, anyone know what is the 5volt, ground and X1 X2.

Thanks for your help guys.

Last question will connecting the ground of the microswitches to the i-pac be ok if I connect them all up with one bare wire, ie not insulated, this would save alot of time trying to connect each one seperate.

Thanks again in advance  :)

According to the guide "General installation and setup for OSCAR spinners." on Oscar's site, it says the wires are labeled on the Model 2.  Perhaps they are labeled on the pc board?

Microswitches don't have a "ground".  Most microswitches have a COM (common) tab though.  You would connect the ground to this tab.  You can connect one wire from the ground on the I-PAC to the COM tab on one swtich and then from that COM tab to the COM tab on the next switch and so on.  This is even explained on the I-PAC site here.  It even has a picture of it too.

There should be label either on the underside of the plate or on the bracket.  If your label is missing for some reason, a wiring diagram and wire color scheme is available on the Support page at www.oscarcontrols.com near the bottom of the page.

BTW, you guessed correctly on the wires.  The white one is X1, and the green one is X2.  Had you plugged those two wires in backwards, the spinner would have just operated in reverse, you wouldn't have damaged it.
