Help with optical switch

Can any point me in the right direction to make an optical switch for my cion slot? so when the coin breaks the beam it sends a signal its like pushing a button

I've had alook at the schematic on oscar controls site
http://www.oscarcontrols.com/coinswitch/

but cant see where you wire in the Infrared Emitter
and Phototransistor Detector in the curcuit.

In the schematic they are shown in the right-side grey box.  The LED is on the right in series with the R4, 10k resistor.  The transistor is on the left, with one leg going to the +5V and the other to the trigger input on the 555 timer.
