Marble contact paper...
« on: May 22, 2004, 12:23:48 pm »

I really need some help. I am in the process of buying the supplies for my cabinet and the last thing i need for it Marble contact paper. I really like the cabs I've seen wrapped in the stuff. Makes you think "wow...That cab is made of marble!!!..... I am looking for a source for good looking marble contact paper. I am hoping to find a few different colors. I want the cabinet in a black marble and the control panel in a rose marble. I am hoping do both the inside and outside of the cab, to even take the solid marble thing further.!!!! ;D
I am very excited. This Cab will be the nicest thing in my Mobile home park. So let me know of any Websites that carry Great looking Marble Contact paper.!!!!

 ;D ;)

Home Depot carries the black marble paper you see on lots of cabs here. I think they have white too. But not much more than that.

Do some searching. There's been lot's of discussion about it here including discussion about sizes, seams, and online sources.

Let me be the first to recommend *against* using it.

I had it on my control panel.  It's rather flimsy for it, worse on cabinet sides.

May I recommend textured black vinyl instead?

I currently have black marble paper on my CP and also recommend avoiding it.

It does look cool, but it's real flimsy.  Even just wiping dust off it leaves scratches and ruins the shine.  It bubbles up around all the buttons.  The edges look like crap.  I could go on.

I am going to redo it with black pica vinyl.

The OP forgot to use sarcasm tags in the post, that was a joke.  It was a little tasteless considering there are people here that have used marble contact paper, but that's just my opinion.
This opinion was created from 100% post consumed information.

I realize that this thread is meant to be funny but I thought this might be a good time to post a link to the oft mentioned "Parts Express" peel-and-stick textured black vinyl for those who might not know about it...

When I first started going to MAME Cab sites, I really did like the marble....It was different from what I saw in the arcades...Then absolutely EVERYONE started using the marble contact paper. IT was on their control panel. IT graced the sides of scratch built cabinets....IT was on conversions...I opened the drawer in my laundry room today and I swear the paper at the bottom of my junk drawer is the same stuff I saw on someone's cabinet. If your cab was built a while ago your marble indescressions are always forgiven, but if you are planning a nuevo Cab, Just Say NO!!!!

My bad for not using the Sarcasm tags....

Marble has been used successfully in the past but some cab builders have overdosed on marble contact paper...now its too late for all of us :'(

(there are some really nices cabs with some marble contact paper that look pretty good.!!
