Call for Pacman Cocktail Cab Redesign Ideas
« on: May 21, 2004, 12:56:07 pm »
I am just about to plan the design of my new cocktail cab (I have to modify the dimensions to accomodate my 21" monitor).

I am just wondering if there were any other modifications to the design that i should consider? anybody have suggestions in hindsight?

it is going to be based on Kyle's std pacman plans.

to play horizontal games i will have CP's mounted on the third side. currently planning on having removable CPs.

like this http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=19099

2 CP's with 8way joystick + 6 buttons and 1 CP with 3" trackball + spinner + 3 buttons

i want to make my CP's moveable without having to remove the table top. also need an elegant solution for connecting the CP wires to the cab (maybe fit D21 sockets on the cab).

any ideas on fixing the CPs to the cab are gratefully received!

yes i have seen your's before - I'm going for a similar way of mounting the monitor (because i think mine will be too heavy to mount in the hinged side way)

i have also boxed in the monitor so it can be removed from the cab (for transport) without worry of damage or electric shock.

If you go for the design that I have, you might not find it that hard to remove the top to switch cps.

I use black weather stripping instead of a bezel between my monitor and my top. The top on my cocktail is not attached to the cab any way but the weather stripping forms a pretty decent stick so the top really isn't going anywhere. Even before I had the weather stripping the top was pretty stable from going anywhere. If you are really worried about it, just put a piano hinge on the backside to hold it to the cab.

I think the best way to make removeable cps for a cocktail is like the example. I think doing it any other way will result in some sort of mounting bracket on the outside of the cab that would be visible when the panel is removed.
