Control Delays
« on: May 18, 2004, 10:45:14 pm »
Been having a problem with my cab, here's the stats:

P4, XP, plenty of memory, Mame32, Ipac

Playing games sometimes the controls stop reacting.  I stop and watch as all the control movements from the past 10 seconds catch up.  When this happens I usually pause the game (of course I have to wait for the pause to catch up) , wait 30 seconds then start playing again.

It's starting to get annoying, especially when I'm playing a great game.  Anyone have an idea where to start troubleshooting this?

Check your CPU usage while the computer is idle. You might have a program running the bg that's sucking up a lot of memory.

I'm not sure if this will help, but I remember somebody talking about the typematic (sp?) rate in the BIOS.  Just something else to check.  Good luck.

I agree with checking running processes.  I've found that some of the BG rpograms I have running use the CPU on a cyclical basis, so if I check FPS in MAME it cycles between 100% and 400% every couple of seconds.  Really makes games interesting to play.  And by interesting, I mean maddeningly frustrating.
