Reverse Button for Defender/Stargate?
« on: May 18, 2004, 02:46:54 pm »
How do you guys that have made these types of CPs mount them?  From what I can tell, you would end up running into your joystick base.  Do you just put it as close as you can or is there a trick that your using?

I'm trying to figure out how to mount next to a T-Stick Plus.

The base on the T-stik is small enough that you should be OK just putting the button as close as you can get it.

I built my own using a 8-way Wico clone, and just cut off one corner of the base with a Dremel tool to allow the button to get closer to the stick.
My reverse button is actually a little closer to the stick than the factory ones were, which feels better to me.

Can't speak for a T-Stick but I made my defender panel using a Happs Ultimate and had no problem.  The base wasn't so big that it got in the way.

:) Rotate or die! :)

Hmm.. maybe my measurements are off.  The only way I could see how close the button is supposed to be to the joy was to check the distances on the CPO.

I'm trying to figure out how to mount next to a T-Stick Plus.

The Defender and Stargate CPs had 2way joysticks which are slim allowing the button to be fitted so close, I bought a 2 way joystick off Ebay for my Stargate CP but it is only compatible with 7 games. If you want to make a CP  for Defender that is compatible with a multitude of games I suggest using the Multi Williams.

It plays Defender (and all the other Williams games) with 8 way joysticks increasing the compatibility of the CP with many of MAME's games

and it's a lovely overlay for williams fans

it can be found here :

cutting template = no measuring

Can you dig it ?

Yup, I've seen that.  I'm going to have some other controls on the CP so I won't be able to use that CPO.  I'm going to custom make one when I get around to it.  From what I see on that one though, they just put it as close as they can.  Thanks everybody for the help.

Thanks for the link Drew.  Really won't help me though since I'm going to be using a T-Stick Plus and I'm still wanting to use it 4/8 way.  I'm not sure I feel comfortable cutting on a $25 joystick.  If it was a Happs Comp or something I'd try it in a heartbeat.  I think the best thing is just to get it as close as possible.
